If you’ve ever wanted to own a superyacht that looks like a giant turtle, this may be your chance. The Italian design studio Lazzarini, which has previously created flying superyachts and futuristic sea ports, has envisioned a massive turtle-shaped vessel that could become the world’s biggest yacht if built. Dubbed Pangeos, the “terayacht” would be able to house up to 60,000 people, and boast hotels, shopping centers, parks, both ship and aircraft ports, and countless luxury villas.
At 550 meters in length and 610 meters at its widest point, the wings, Pangeos is more than double the size of the Colosseum. It would offer 19 private villas and 69 apartments on each of its turtle wings, as well as several rooftop gardens, a supersized beach club, and numerous pools. It would also be fitted with helipads and hangars for planes and choppers.
The itinerant continent, which is named after the Pangea supercontinent that existed from 200 million to 335 million years ago, would sail around the globe non-stop thanks to a virtually endless supply of green energy. Powered by nine HTS (high-temperature superconducting) electric motors generating 16,800 horsepower each, the megayacht would cruise at a speed of five knots. A solar panel array on its outer’shell’ would provide additional power as needed.
Aside from the opulent luxuries and amenities on board, Pangeos is designed with sustainability and environmental friendliness in mind. According to the designers, “it is conceived as a sustainable and livable ‘ecosystem’ in which human activity can coexist with the surrounding ocean.” To further reduce its environmental impact, the massive watercraft is designed with no sewage discharges and is built to avoid contaminating the waters it traverses.
Pangeos has been proposed for construction in Saudi Arabia, where it would be constructed at a dedicated “terashipyard” due to its epic size. Since the terayacht would be too large to fit into any of the existing shipyards, it’s estimated that it could take eight years to complete the build.
To finance the project, Lazzarini is selling virtual spaces on the yacht through a new type of NFT cryptocurrency. For a fee of about $8 million, you can reserve your own private room or a rooftop terrace on the massive vessel. Spaces are currently available for sale on the NFT platform, with the goal of raising enough money to begin construction next year. To date, more than 11,000 NFTs have been purchased. If all goes as planned, the first voyage of Pangeos is expected to be in 2033. For more information on the uber-luxe superyacht, check out its official website.
