The shop
Located on Wishkah Street in Aberdeen, this quirky harbor icon is a must-visit for any Star Wars fan. Inside, it’s an immersive experience of space opera magic that appeals to children and adults alike.
The shop is a wonderland of thousands of items from life-sized mannequins of Princess Leia and Chewbacca to a gamut of boutique star wars Throughout the store, small TVs play movies, cartoons and interviews related to the iconic franchise.
One of the store’s most impressive displays is its lighted lightsabers. These awe-inspiring devices are built by Sucher and his sons, Nick and Koby.
Sucher is a die-hard “Star Wars” fan, and the lightsabers are a big part of the store’s success. He assembles them from a variety of parts.
Besides the lightsabers, Sucher’s store also has a guest book and visitor map. There’s even a tattoo wall, where fans proudly display their Star Wars-related tattoos (such as Princess Leia). It’s a place you should check out next time you’re in the neighborhood.
The owner
Don Sucher grew up in the 1960s, watching sci-fi films like Star Wars and The Six Million Dollar Man. He was so taken with the movies that he wanted to find a way to share his love for them.
Sucher opened his shop on Wishkah Street in Aberdeen, Washington, about 20 years ago. He’s filled it floor-to-ceiling with merchandise — action figures crowded on tables, ships dangling from the ceiling and droids stacked in a display case.
He also has a droid-shaped tattoo of Carrie Fisher’s face on his left bicep. Below it, her signature in Sharpie from 11 years ago, when Sucher met her in Los Angeles for the 30th anniversary of Star Wars.
Sucher is not trying to be famous or wealthy, and he’s not seeking attention or clicks. But he does want to share the passion that binds him to his love of Star Wars with those who walk through the doors of his Aberdeen shop.
