Here is the list of the 5 best PS1 emulators for android. With the PlayStation came dozens of legendary games and one of the most iconic gaming systems ever released. In terms of sales, it dominated the fifth generation of game consoles by a decent margin. A number of franchises, including Final Fantasy, Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Tekken, Spyro, Madden, and many others, were extremely successful.
Here are the best PlayStation emulators for Android right now if you played those games as a kid and want to play them again. There aren’t a lot of them, but the PlayStation emulator market is as solid and good as it gets. We don’t expect this list to change anytime soon unless a new competitor emerges.
We also recommend either ePSXe or FPSE to simplify things a bit. These are the two leading competitors in the space, and one of them should definitely work for you.
The best PlayStation emulators for Android
ClassicBoy Gold
Price: Free / $5.99
ClassicBoy Gold bills itself as an all-in-one emulator. Among the consoles it supports are PlayStation, three Game Boy systems, Nintendo 64, NES, SEGA, and NeoGeo. There are also a variety of features. Support for hardware controllers, customizable touch screen controls, a few audio settings, and the usual save and load functionality is included. If you are looking for multiple emulators under one roof, this is a good choice.
However, this one is still a bit new, and it definitely still needs some polish, especially for the PlayStation emulator. Before purchasing, we recommend trying out the free version.
EmuBox
Price: Free
EmuBox is one of the newer PlayStation emulators. It’s also an all-in-one emulator app. Several consoles are included, including SNES, Nintendo DS, NES, and, of course, PlayStation. The stability was decent during our testing. Additionally, save and load states, cheat code support, fast forward mode, and hardware controller support are included. That’s basically the best of the basics. Although it’s not as configurable as something like FPse, it works well enough.
It is entirely free to use with advertising. Our only wish is that there was a way to purchase the emulator and remove the ads since they can be a little intrusive.
ePSXe
Price: $3.75
In my opinion, ePSXe is one of the two best PlayStation emulators out there. It is also a bit easier to use than the other one. It’s also highly stable. Split-screen mode, save and load states, customizable controls, hardware controller support, and OpenGL enhanced graphics are also supported.
Additional features can also be added via plugins. You should pick this one if you’re looking for something that will work right out of the box. The only downsides are the lack of a demo mode and the outdated UI. Other than that, this one works quite well.
FPse
Price: $3.63
FPse is one of the two most popular PlayStation emulators for Android. This one is highly customizable. Basic features like save and load states, customizable controls, high compatibility, and hardware controller support are included.
Additionally, it has a range of advanced options, plugins, and extras that let you customize how the games play. Depending on your device, you can choose to have better graphics or better gameplay. This one does not have a free trial version like ePSXe. Additionally, this one has a steeper learning curve because of its vast array of options.
RetroArch
Price: Free
RetroArch is among the most famous Playstation emulators. The emulator also boasts multi-platform support. In fact, it supports almost anything you can imagine. Plugins for each system must be downloaded separately. This means there is an extra level of complexity compared to most PlayStation emulators.
When you master this app, you won’t have to look for another one for quite some time. From our experience, the PlayStation core operates fairly well. It’s completely free (and open-source). Another option that works a lot like RetroArch is Lemuroid if you want this experience in a different package.
